Principals Address
As we wrap up another vibrant and bustling term, I am delighted to share the myriad of extracurricular events that have enriched our students' school experience. Our students' talent, enthusiasm, and dedication have been on full display across various platforms, showcasing the incredible spirit of our school.
This term, our dance troupe dazzled at the Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod, leaving the audience in awe with their innovative choreography and seamless performances. This year we entered a record number of bands in the Regional Fanfare competition, where our musicians delivered stellar performances that resonated with both judges and spectators. Additionally, our weekly interschool sports competitions have seen students engage passionately in a range of summer sports highlighting their teamwork and competitive spirit. Our school values sport and subsidises the cost of buses to ensure maximum participation.
In our weekly assemblies, I have been sharing messages centred around personal development and success, emphasising the "10 Things That Require Zero Talent." This term, we focused on the importance of being on time. Punctuality is a simple yet powerful habit that demonstrates respect, reliability, and commitment values we hold dear at our school.
Habits, both good and bad, play a crucial role in shaping our futures. I have encouraged students to cultivate positive habits, as focusing on small, consistent actions can lead to significant achievements. By paying attention to the little things like being on time, maintaining a positive attitude, and putting in consistent effort students can set themselves up for success not just academically, but in all areas of life.
I have also communicated how well our school serves the wide range of students through innovative teaching practices and state-of-the-art resources. Our commitment to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment ensures that every student can thrive and reach their full potential. Whether through our advanced technology, modern facilities, or dynamic curriculum, we strive to cater to the diverse needs and interests of our student body.
I have worked hard to forge new partnerships with organisations such as Sunshine Coast University, Metro North Health and building companies such as Ausbuild to complement the great work in our school with opportunities outside of school.
I am very proud to be the Principal of this amazing school and look forward to working in partnership with our school community.

Our winter uniform consists of track pants and either our black or maroon jacket. Non uniform track pants or jumpers are not permitted as per our Uniform Policy. Our winter uniform can be purchased from the Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop is located on-site and open from 8am to 9am, Monday to Friday. Stay warm!
Congratulations Year 12 Student Sophia
Supporting students setting goals for life after school features heavily in the senior school. Working with our identified partnerships students can access a range of great opportunities, including events such as the UniSC Greatest Field Trip in the World. We are proud to have one of our students selected to participate in this once in a lifetime experience.
Congratulations Sophia!

Stop 6 - Climb aboard Sunreef Mooloolaba for whale watching. Get up close and personal with the ocean’s gentle giants alongside a UniSC tourism expert.
National Sorry Day
Our school community commemorated National Sorry Day with a profoundly moving ceremony. Yvett and Tachan, who served as MCs, demonstrated exceptional leadership in their roles. Our First Nations students performed the Welcome Dance, and it was heartwarming to see Aunty Deb join in with them. Uncle Darrel welcomed us to Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi Country, offering personal insights and reflections to guide us toward a reconciled Australia.
Year 7 LFL classes contributed their hand cutouts to our expansive Sea of Hands display, creating a stunning visual at the front of the school. It was wonderful to see so many staff members and students present to respectfully acknowledge the Stolen Generations.
We extend our gratitude to the ARTIE Academy for providing the BBQ after the ceremony.
Year 9 News
Year 9 has had a busy Term 2 and there is still so much more fun to come.
In Week 5, Miss Clark and Ms Opacic travelled with seven Year 9 students to the University of the Sunshine Coast where they participated in a fantastic Youth Leadership Conference. The day consisted of 3 motivational speakers as well as a range of engaging activities requiring students to connect with other schools. The wonderful motivational speakers discussed a range of topics including mental health, diversity and persistence. We are very proud of how our students conducted themselves from asking and answering questions in front of a large audience, to getting up on stage and dancing!
Throughout Term 2 a group of Year 9 students successfully completed sessions with RDAA QLD. These students made meaningful connections with both the trainers and the horses. Many of these students have now also shown an interest in volunteering with the organisation after having such a positive experience. We would also like to send a massive thank you to our Guidance Officer, Claire for organising this program.
Looking ahead all Year 9 students should have received a permission note for their Term 3 Science excursion to Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre. For further details, please contact your students Science teacher.
Year 8 Business
Year 8 Business classes have once again participated in a real life experience to develop the skills of an entrepreneur! Students worked in groups of 2-3 to compete against each other to see which group can generate the most BayCoin income by selling their products. Students chose a product, conducted surveys of their peers to identify price points, and created a marketing plan including posters, maps, and decorations. They pitched their products to a group of teachers in a bid to earn extra funding to help them out-perform their classmates. This year’s winners had a clear marketing plan that set them out from the rest.
All students represented the school and our values of Belonging, Integrity, Persistence, and Aspiration.
- Belonging – students were kind, courteous, and polite while waiting in line to purchase items
- Integrity – students were honest about purchasing their goods
- Persistence – the Business students had to overcome different struggles to be successful on the day
- Aspiration – Each of the teams were motivated to outperform each other. They did not want to settle for second best!
Thanks so much to everyone for their participation. We are looking forward to running this event again in term 4!
Year 8 Woodworking and Physics Project
Year 8 students recently showcased their woodworking skills and physics knowledge by crafting their own returning boomerangs. This hands-on project involved designing, sculpting, and painting boomerangs, blending creativity with practical applications of forces and aerodynamics.
Starting with basic principles of boomerang design, students experimented with various shapes, sizes, and weights to perfect their creations. This iterative process deepened their understanding of lift, drag, and gravity, enhancing their problem-solving skills.
Using woodworking tools, students shaped plywood into boomerangs, paying close attention to symmetry and balance. The final step was painting, allowing students to personalise their projects with unique designs.
Teachers were impressed by the students' engagement and perseverance. The project culminated in a showcase where students proudly demonstrated their functional and artistic boomerangs, celebrating their hard work and ingenuity.
This project was a success, fostering valuable skills and a sense of achievement among the students, inspiring them to further explore the worlds of design and physics.
Year 10 News
In year 10, we have been focusing on work skills and preparing for Work Experience this term. It has been highly successful, with nearly all year 10 students participating in a week of Work Experience in week 9 and week 10 to help prepare for life after school. Following work experience, we will be preparing for SET plan interviews at the end term 3. We will be exploring post schooling pathways and senior subject options in Learning for Life lessons. A focus for year 10 this term is on attendance and reaching a 90% attendance target for each student. The cohort also continues to work together on their weekly challenges to increase teamwork, attendance and school spirit.
Volleyball Development Program
Year 10 Girls Metropolitan Finals: Round 1 & 2 Recap:
The Year 10 Girls Volleyball team had a dominant season of summer sport. Undefeated all season and winning their grand final against Mueller College 2-0. Due to their efforts, the team competed in the Metropolitan Final round games to qualify for a spot in the Metropolitan Finals. Round 1 vs Aspley SHS – the girls worked hard as a team, had impressive service rates and won the game 2 sets to 1. Round 2 vs The Gap SHS, an extremely tight game with long rallies and challenging opponents. The girls played one of the best games of Volleyball they have played as a team, but unfortunately narrowly lost the game in the third set. A special shout out to Gloria who was awarded MVP of the Metropolitan Final round games.

Students choose from fairy floss, popcorn, slushies, pizzas, hot chips or a range of cakes and other sweets. After almost a whole Semester of following our four school rules and four school values, DBSHS students deserved this opportunity to be rewarded for earning BayCoins across Term 1 and Term 2.

In the Grand Final both teams competed to their absolute best, however, were defeated by Bray Park SHS. This is an excellent result, students involved should be very happy with their efforts. A special mention to Lincoln and Tylah who were voted MVPs for the respective teams.
