Key dates and reminders to welcome students back for the 2025 school year! Please take note of the following:
Start Dates:
- Monday, 27th January, is Australia Day public holiday.
- Year 7, 11, and 12 students return on Tuesday, 28th January 8:25am to 2:30pm (General sports uniform).
- Year 8, 9, and 10 students join on Wednesday, 29th January 8:25am to 2:30pm (General sports uniform).
Uniform Shop Hours:
The Uniform Shop will have extended hours from Wednesday, 22nd January, to Wednesday, 29th January. For more information regarding the Uniform Shop please refer to the article in this e-newsletter or check Facebook for details.
Mobile Phone Policy:
Phones and headphones are placed in the student's bag from period 1 and are "Away for the day". Link to access our Mobile Device Policy click here

In term 1, all parents/caregivers will receive an invitation code on email to register.

Student Resource Scheme 2025
Exciting news for families, Mr Sodhi announced on 22nd November 2024, via Facebook that the school has decided to lower the cost of the Student Resource Fee for the upcoming year. This decision reflects the school's commitment to making education more accessible and easing the financial burden on parents and caregivers.
The reduction comes as part of the school’s broader initiative to support students and their families, ensuring that everyone has the resources needed for a successful learning experience.

Student Resource Scheme Invoicing - Will be processed starting from Friday, 7th February. Invoices will be emailed to the nominated parent, via email and can be located on the QParents App. Payments can be made via QParents App, BPoint, or at the school office between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm. (Payment plans are available upon request, please email accountsreceivable@deceptionbayshs.eq.edu.au)

Stay Connected with the Compass Parent Portal
The Compass Parent Portal is your one-stop platform for staying informed and engaged with your child’s education and our school community. Accessible via the web or the Compass School Manager App (available for download in your device’s App Store), the portal keeps important information at your fingertips.
What Can You Do with the Compass Parent Portal?
The portal offers a range of features designed to make school communication and management easier, including:
- Add Attendance Notes: Notify the school of absences quickly and easily.
- Communicate with Teachers: Send and receive messages from your child’s teachers.
- Monitor Homework and Assessment Tasks: Stay up to date with your child’s academic responsibilities.
- View Reports: Access Semester and Progress Reports anytime.
- Book Parent-Teacher Conferences: Schedule meetings with teachers for Parent-Teacher events.
Parents/caregivers will receive an email in term one with username and login details.
Uniform Shop Opening Hours
As we prepare for an exciting new school year, the Uniform Shop will be open before Term 1 commences to ensure all students are ready and equipped.
Uniform Shop Opening Hours:
- Monday, 20th January: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Tuesday, 21st January: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Wednesday, 22nd January: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Thursday, 23rd January: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Friday, 24th January: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Tuesday, 27th January: 8:00AM - 10:00am
- Wednesday, 28th January: 8:00AM - 10:00am
From Thursday, 30th January normal operational hours 8:00am to 9:00am daily.
Friendly reminder Formal Uniform is required to be worn Mondays from week 2. Let’s make sure everyone starts the year off looking sharp and confident!


Bring Your Own Device Program
Starting in 2025, the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program at Deception Bay State High School will expand to include Year 9 students. This program is mandatory for students in Junior Extension, as well as those in Years 9, 10, 11, and 12, giving more students the opportunity to enhance their learning experience with personal laptops.
The BYOD program is designed to support classroom activities and prepare students for the digital world. Families are encouraged to review the recommended device specifications on the school’s website to ensure their devices meet program requirements. If you’re planning to purchase a new laptop, now is a great time to take advantage of sales to find a suitable option.

School Photo Date
Mark your calendars! School Photo Day is scheduled for Monday, 17 March. All students are required to wear their full formal uniform on this day. Please ensure uniforms align with the school’s dress code, which can be referred to for further details: Student Dress Code.
For any students who are unable to attend on the main day, a catch-up photo day will be held on Friday, 21 March.
