Welcome to Deception Bay SHS
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest cohort of Year 7 students joining Deception Bay State High School in 2025!
Starting high school is an exciting milestone, and we are committed to making this transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Our dedicated team of teachers, support staff, and student leaders are ready to guide and inspire our Year 7 students as they embark on this new chapter in their educational journey.
At Deception Bay State High School, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive, and supportive learning environment. From academic programs designed to challenge and engage, to extracurricular opportunities in Sport, Drama, Dance, Music and STEM. There is something for everyone to thrive and grow.
To help our incoming students and their families feel confident and prepared, we have planned several transition activities which include:
- Welcome to a high school lesson: A chance to meet classmates, explore the campus, and get a taste of high school life.
- Parent Information Session: In Week 4, 18th February, we are holding a Meet and Greet event. This event will include the essential details about curriculum, school routines, and the opportunity to meet our year 7 teachers.
We are excited to see the energy, talents, and aspirations of our new Year 7 students and we look forward to what you bring to our school community. Together, we will make 2025 a year filled with discovery, learning, and success.

Student Resource Scheme (SRS)
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is designed to provide families with an affordable and convenient way to access the resources their children need for school. Here’s how it works and what it includes:
What Does the Queensland Government Provide?
The Queensland Government funds:
- Instruction: Teachers for classroom learning.
- Facilities: School buildings, grounds, and internet access.
- Administration: Staff to manage school operations.
However, this funding does not cover individual student resources such as textbooks, personal equipment, and classroom materials.
How Does the SRS Help Families?
The SRS allows the school to purchase resources in bulk, passing the savings on to families. Items like textbooks and musical instruments can be hired to students, further reducing costs. It also ensures all students have access to the same high-quality materials, supporting equitable learning outcomes.
What Resources Are Included?
- Owned by the Student: Items like diaries that are provided to students and retained for personal use.
- Hired to the Student: Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments, which are returned in good condition after use.
- Used in Class: Materials like stationery, ingredients, or equipment used in lessons. Finished projects made from these materials are typically taken home by the student.
Why Participate in the SRS?
By joining the SRS, families save time and money while ensuring students have everything they need to succeed. It’s a simple and efficient way to provide for your child’s educational needs.
For more information about the SRS or to join, please contact the school office.
Supporting Families in 2025
Recognising the ongoing economic challenges many families face, our school has taken the step to reduce the SRS fees for 2025. This decision ensures that accessing quality education remains affordable and achievable for all our families, providing essential resources at a lower cost.
Year 7 SRS payment will be $185.00 in 2025.
