Opportunities for Senior School Students
Pathways Hub
Over the past term, the Vocational Education and Training team in Senior School have created a section in the student portal for Seniors to go to for career pathway assistance (Pathways Hub). There is information about University, Traineeships, Apprenticeships and external courses available for 2025. If students are looking for casual work, outside of school, they can click on a link in the portal to upload their draft resume and have it checked by our Industry Liaison officer, Emily Echlin or by Mrs Woodward (VET HOD-Pathways). There is also a section that has up to date casual positions in our local area and links to directly apply.
This new student portal section has been an amazing addition to the team, resulting in many enquiries with Senior School and 26 expressions of interest so far for our 2025 external courses.
2025 External Courses
We are a Registered Training Organisation, which means that with the Certificate II and Certificate III subjects that we deliver, we work on providing quality training and assessment that is responsive to the individual needs of the student — but also up to industry standards. Despite delivering numerous qualifications at our school, when a student is interested in a career path not on our scope, we work with external training providers and QLD TAFE to find a suitable qualification.
In getting ready for 2025, we have expressions of interest currently open for Certificate II in the following areas, Electrotechnology, Automotive Electrical Technology and Plumbing (through either the Australian Trade Training College or Workskills). We have also been working with students to sign them up for Beauty courses in Brisbane CBD with The French Beauty Academy, and Animal Care through Redcliffe TAFE. When students participate in these courses, they are away from school for the day to attend the respective training locations where they complete a mix of theory and practical work with experienced trainers.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Other exciting news is the commencement of several school-based apprenticeships and traineeships in a variety of industries including Health, Hairdressing and Engineering. These apprenticeships and traineeships were the result of three young women proactively applying to commence their careers. In particular, Monique of Year 10 attended work experience with an Engineering firm and they were so happy with her work over the week that they offered her an apprenticeship — it is the first time the firm has taken on a school-based apprentice. It’s great to see young ladies taking up these opportunities.
If you have any questions about the information in this article, please contact either Emily Echlin on eech10@eq.edu.au, or either of our VET Heads of Department — Mia Righetti (RTO Manager) on ajrig0@eq.edu.au or Angela Woodward (Pathways) on axwoo11@eq.edu.au.
Year 7 News
Our Year 7 students are in full swing with their Friday LFL sports program, bringing incredible energy to the field! Over the past three weeks, they have dived into activities like kick tennis, soccer shootouts, golden child, and a variety of other ball games. These sessions go beyond building athletic skills — they are thoughtfully crafted to help students form positive connections within and across classes.
It is inspiring to see students cheer each other on, work together in new ways, and build lasting friendships across the year level. With each game, the sense of teamwork and camaraderie grows stronger, and the positive impact on students' social skills and school spirit is clear.
A quick reminder: please ensure your child in Year 7 has a water bottle and hat each day, especially on Fridays for sport!
Senior Arts Gala Performances
A few weeks ago, the Arts Department hosted its Senior Arts Gala, a night dedicated to celebrating the talent and hard work of our Senior Arts and Music students. The evening kicked off with a Senior Art Exhibition and BBQ, creating a warm and inviting start to an unforgettable showcase.
The performances that followed highlighted the dedication and creativity of our students, with memorable acts by the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble, Stage Band, Marching Drums, Voices of the Bay, DBay Four vocals, Student Band, Drama in Practice, and the Certificate III in Dance and Music classes. The Senior Dance Troupe, with the invaluable support of our Tech Crew, added a dynamic touch to the event. A standout moment was the combined ensemble performance with our feeder primary school concert band students, demonstrating the impressive depth of talent in our local community.
We also celebrated key achievements, including recognition for students in Instrumental Music who earned their QCE points through their program participation and the Arts Service Award recipients. Congratulations to Madi, Emily M, Ryda, Tash, and Emily F for their dedication to the Arts extra-curricular program since they joined our school. We wish them every success as they continue their journey in the Arts post-graduation.
Thank you to all students, staff, and community members who supported this incredible event and made it possible. It was a night that truly showcased the spirit, talent, and passion of our Arts community!
Senior Art Gala Exhibition
The Senior Art Gala exhibition was a tremendous success, highlighting the exceptional artwork of our Year 10, 11, and 12 students. Visitors were captivated by the impressive talent and creativity on display, with many students presenting thought-provoking pieces that truly stood out.
This year's collection reflected the dedication and growth of each artist, with pieces that resonated deeply with attendees. Beyond the incredible skill shown, the exhibition served as a vibrant expression of each student's unique perspective and commitment to their craft, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Congratulations to our talented young artists for a remarkable exhibition that showcased the heart and creativity of our Senior Arts community!
